Hello and welcome to FluentlyFast. Today we'll be diving into the world of food. #fooddrool
In Spain the food intake of a day is mainly divided into 5 meals-
Breakfast- El desayuno
Snack #1- Las tapas
Lunch- El almuerzo or La comida
Snack #2- La merienda
Dinner- La cena
I know what you're thinking, it's a dream.
El desayuno
Time- till 10 a.m.
It is the first meal of the day and is light, generally breakfast pastries or bread with strong coffee. It is eaten at home before leaving for school or work.
Las Tapas
Time- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The second meal of the day is 'las tapas', again a light meal usually eaten in a café before lunch.
La comida
Time- 1:30-4:30 p.m
Lunch is a big deal in Spain, and is the heaviest meal of the day. On weekends, it is eaten with family and friends in a restaurant. People sit chatting after the meal, it is called as sobremesa.
La merienda
Time- 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The 4th meal of the day is a light snack eaten between lunch and dinner. Sometimes after la merienda, there is an aperitif which is a meal with alcoholic drinks and appetizers before dinner.
La cena
Time- 9:30 p.m.
The last meal of the day, la cena, is a light meal.
